Rock wool originated quite by accident in the 19th century in Hawaii. A strong wind cooled and dispersed the volcanic lava, creating fluffy fibers with which the local population later covered their huts to protect themselves from the heat. The method for the production of stone mineral wool was first patented in the USA in 1870 and is still based on similar principles: raw materials of mineral origin are melted at high temperature, "lava" is obtained from them, i.e. melt , which is pulled into fibers.
